There are signs, there are signals adding up to 108… there is no card higher in the deck than the Ace.  “The Eighth” is a story told in five parts.  Each song flows into the next.  It is a journey starting with “My Right Side” setting the scene in the signature APL style with acoustic guitars holding up the narrative as sonic signposts.  “Water In The Door” and its accompanying reprise strip back the loudness and anger of Purple Metal and embrace the beauty and melodies that are hidden in a summer storm.  These are rain songs.  Through sheets of rain and heat you can hear something reaching out… lifting.  There was once no hope, but that was until I heard the thunder.  There is something hidden in those distant claps.  “Pennycolor” moves quickly, like change falling out of your pocket.  You always find the things you lost in the unlikeliest of places.  The story ends with “Still In Two,” a quiet, synth and hand percussion driven meditation among the backdrop of field recordings of storms and birdsong captured specifically for this release.  I found a prayer in my pocket and your name was at the bottom.
